The
Limitations of Digital Restoration
When a part
of the photo is missing, including creases that appear white, scratches and
torn sections that are missing, the results depend a lot on which part of
the image is gone. If the missing part was background or clothing or flesh
without important details, it can be filled in with color from a surrounding
area and is often unnoticeable to the naked eye.
If, on the other hand, the missing section includes details like eyes, hands,
fine lines like hair, etc. It may be impossible to achieve results that pass
unnoticed.
If the picture is important enough and the detail that is there is sufficient
you may be willing to go ahead and acheive whatever is possible. This may
fall into the realm of "painting" where the artist is guessing what was there
and tries to blend colors in so that the missing details are less noticeable.
The resulting image is neccessarily different from the original.
Before we proceed, and before you are charged anything, we will let you know
if these limitations apply to your image.
